Imphal, January 28, 2006: Against the backdrop of the recent ‘Operation Dragnet’ launched by the Army in Thanlon – Parbung areas from Jan 20, the Army has deployed a large number of ‘IED Detection and Destruction Teams’ to sanitise the interiors of Thanlon – Parbung areas.
Army officials claims that the team have so far detected and destroyed 56 IEDs from Parbung, Taithu, Tinsong, Thanlon, Tolbung, Pahijang, Saite, Maulian and Phainom.
Besides this, 70 kgs of explosives and a large quantity of detonators were recovered during the operation.
The villagers have been sensitised and educated by the Army with regard to precautions to be taken as regard to avoid IEDs, said a PIB (DW) press handout.
