Fact finding police team furnishes refugee report

Imphal, February 01, 2006: A fact finding police team led by the OC of Parbung which was deputed by the Sp of Churachandpur police, Lhari Dorjee to get a first hand account of the number of refugees at Mizoram has reported to the SP that at present there are 850 refugees still at Mizoram while 50 had earlier returned to their homesteads at Lungthulien village.

The team was deputed by the SP as the district has not received any official report on the refugees at Mizoram.

The team is expected to reach Parbung tomorrow and more reports may come in after the team returns.

“In order to get an accurate report on the matter I have already sent the OC of Parbung to the areas to get a detailed account,” said the SP while talking to The Sangai Express today and added “there are reports that some of the displaced persons have returned to their homesteads.” The police as well as the district administration are extending all possible help to address the woes of the displaced persons, he said.

Meanwhile all Govt institutions at CCpur have been paralysed after four student bodies closed them in protest against the negligence of the State Govt towards the plight of the people of the district.

Source said that DC AK Sinha is trying to work out a solution.
