Lamka, February 02, 2006: The Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur AK Sinha, IAS as well as the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur Lhatoo Dorji IPS have been accused of adopting a lackadaisical approach towards the problems presently faced by the residents of Tipaimukh sub-divisions by four tribal students’ body.

In a lengthy press statement issued jointly by the four tribal students’ organisations, the Hmar Students Association (HSA), Kuki Students Organisation (KSO), Mizo Zirllai Pawl (MZP) and the Zomi Students Federation (ZSF) charged the two officers of making an irrelevant statement over the Tipaimukh area crisis during an interaction with the media on January 30.

When hundreds of villagers in the Churachandpur are frantically searching for security and soughting refuge in the neighbouring state, Mizoram DC is saying he is not aware of the problems for want of official report depicting the government’s lack of concern for the people of Churachandpur district, the statement charged.

The unbecoming behaviour of the top administrative is totally unacceptable as it shows lack of concern and sympathy towards the displaced villagers of the district said the statement.

The four students today also lambasted the SP, Churachandpur for making ridiculous statements quoting mediareports that all the displaced people have returned to their respective homes.

The statement also castigated him saying his statement only mirrored the half hearted approach and lack of sincerity on the part of the district administration towards the villagers’ plight.

The situation in Mizoram is in contradiction to what was said by the DC and the SP of Churachandpur, it said.

Though some villages in the Tipaimukh sub-division have been cleared of valley based militants, many villagers are reluctant to return unless and until full security is provided to them.

It further said as of now more than one thousand refugees have been scattered in Mizoram in different villages of Sakawidai, Khawpuar, Vaitin, Sesawng, Darlawn, Ratu, Suangpuilawn, Phaibuang, Khawlian and at many places of Meghalaya and Assam apart from Churachandpur town proper areas.

The students bodies also condemned and denounced the news items appeared in some Imphal based dailies that the DC, Churachandpur has convened a meeting with students’ organisations.

While the Mizoram government has been providing all necessary help to the refugees it charged the government of the state, district administration and also concerned MLAs for failing to do the same.

Further the statement urged the state government and district administrations to get their facts and figures accurate about the current human crisis in Tipaimukh sub-division and rehabilitate them without waiting for an official report.

Reiterating that the Ibobi led SPF government has not shown even an iota of concern for the villagers, the statement said as such thousands of people were displaced, many died due to landmine bombs and many are unable to bear the inhuman harassment of villagers by valley based militants.

In yet another development in Mizoram, the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) held a meeting on January 31 whereby according to reports, the suffering of Hmar tribes in Tipaimukh sub-division have been discussed.
