Aizawl, February 03, 2006: The Hmar Inpui (Hmar Main House) and the Hmar Youth Association have issued a statement expressing gratitude to the state of Mizoram for granting shelter to its “children�, comprising Hmar refugees who had to flee their homes in Manipur.
“While the Manipur government remained a silent spectator to our plight when we were subjected to great atrocities by the United National Liberation Front, the state of Mizoram, taking on the mantle of a parent, took us in and gave us much-needed shelter,� the statement said.
The state’s print and electronic media and village leaders also received thanks.
“We have rediscovered our deep brotherhood as we have learnt that our plight had evoked deep sympathy among the Mizo kindred scattered all over the world,� the statement added.
