Imphal, February 13, 2006: A petition was filed today in the Manipur Human Rights Co-mmission (MHRC) jointly by the Hmar Students’ Association, Rongmei Women’s Organisation and Human Rights Alert seeking for an inquiry into the situations that compelled displacement of Hmar villagers of Churachandpur district and their present conditions in Manipur and Mizoram, informed a press release issued by Human Rights Alert.
The petition was drawn and filed on behalf of the three organisations by Human Rights Law Network (Manipur), it mentioned.
The matter would be produced before a sitting of MHRC to be presided by its chairperson WA Shishak on Feb 16, it added.
