Imphal February 25, 2006: A high-level team from Manipur is on a visit to Mizoram to meet the displaced persons from the state taking refuge there, officials here said today.
Many people had fled from Churachandpur district of Manipur after the United National Liberation Front and the Army were locked in a gun battle in the district recently.
Three MLAs, K Ranjit, Chaltonlien Amo and Vivek Raj, and government officials went to Mizoram yesterday and called on Chief Minister Zoramthanga and other officials, the officials added.
The team assured the government of reimbursing about Rs 8 lakhs incurred by Mizoram while looking after the displaced villagers.
The Mizoram government has promised to help the displaced people, officials said.
The team went to Sakawrdai and met the displaced people. Some had already started returning to Manipur as normalcy was gradually restored, the officials added.
