Imphal, February 13, 2006: A petition was filed today in the Manipur Human Rights Co-mmission (MHRC) jointly by the Hmar Students’ Association, Rongmei Women’s Organisation and Human Rights Alert seeking for an inquiry into the situations that compelled displacement of Hmar villagers of Churachandpur district and their present conditions in Manipur and Mizoram, informed a press release issued by Human Rights Alert. Imphal, February 09, 2006: Despite the claims of Lt Gen ZU Shah, 3 Corps Commander and GOC of 57 Mountain Division Major Gen GG Dwivedi that Parbung and Thanlon have been cleared of militants, reports have come in that a fierce gun fight is on between MPA cadres of the UNLF and the security personnel at S Lailong village, which is about a 5 hour walk distance from Thanlon sub-division headquarters. Imphal, February 07, 2006: With the successful conduct of ‘Operation Dragnet’ which was launched on January 20 this year by the troops of 57 Mountain Division under the aegis of 3 Corps, the entire 262 km stretch of National Highway-150 from Churchandpur to Tipaimukh is now free from underground elements. Claiming this the General Officer in Command, GOC, 3 Corps, ZU Shah has stated that the operation was conducted most professionally with a humane face and received excellent cooperation from the local people.
