KCP pledges probe support on rape slur

Imphal, March 11, 2006: Observing that allegations of UNLF and KCP cadres’ involvement in the rape of women folk of some interior villages in Tipaimukh sub-division is concocted and malicious the Kangleipak Communist Party pledged unstinted support to thorough investigation on the matter.

Contending that report filed in the North East sun by one David Buhril and allegations levelled against the UG groups by some NGOs based outside Manipur is intent on maligning the image of the outfits and portray them (UGs) as terrorists, a statement issued by the KCP’s publicity and information secretary Pibarel Mangang prevailed upon elders/settlers of Tipaimukh and Thanlon sub-division villages to ascertain veracity of the allegations for which KCP would not hesitate to cooperate under any circumstances.

Like UNLF had guaranteed unflinching support to NGOs that investigate the matter KCP also pledges its assurance, said Pibarel.

Maintaining that real fact on the matter could be ascertained from Parbung villagers rather than relying on manufactured report of vested interest, KCP further called upon the people to remain vigilant saying adversaries forces are relentlessly conspiring to tarnish image of UNLF and KCP organisations.

It also desired that leaders of Churachandpur based Hmar Inpui Association and MP HT Sangliana to enact their role positively by going through details on the Lungthulien village issue rather than resort to communal outburst, which could affect age-old cordial relationships amongst various communities of the State.

Attempts to tarnish the image of underground organisations who had proposed or supported plebiscite call by crucifying precious lives and modesty of Hmar girls would have negative repercussion in the long run as truth cannot be tampered with forever, observed the KCP.

Conveying that KCP or UNLF cadres never harbors ill-will towards the people of Parbung or Lungthulien villages but had been making all out effort to ease their (villagers) economic and social constraints, the statement also urged the people to authenticate allegations of extortions and harassments leveled by the HPC (D) organisation before making any premature conclusion.

Contrary to the HPC (D) charges, the water reservoir at Parbung had been constructed at the initiatives of KCP to address one of many problems besetting Parbung villagers, said the outfit and added that other household items are being provided to the villagers which can unarguably be construed as a sign of cordiality between the people and cadres of UG groups.

With the armed struggle to regain Manipur’s sovereignty moving in the right direction the people should be equally vigilant, as intensity of adversary forces conspiring to impede the movement cannot be undermined, cautioned the secretary.
