Imphal, March 23, 2006: Following the successful counter insurgency drive against militants at Thanlon and Parbung area of Churachandpur area and in response to army’s appeal to the State for deployment of additional forces in the area to consolidate their position, Special Secretary of Union Home Ministry, GS Rajagopal will be arriving here on April 3 to review the security scenario in the State.
According to a highly reliable information received by The Sangai Express, the Army’s request for additional forces in Thanlon and Parbung to consolidate their position would be considered after checking the ground situation when the Special Secretary makes his visit to the State.
It is reported that during his one day visit, Rajagopal will make a detailed study of the security situation in Manipur with high ranking State officials.
On the other hand, it has been agreed to sanction Rs 28.02 crores to BRO for the development of 151 km long stretch of NH 150 from Churachandpur to Thanlon during Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh’s meeting with the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, LK Joshi at New Delhi last Monday.
Moreover, the Secretary approved to sanction Rs 10 crores to the State PWD for the development of the 111 km long stretch from Thanlon to Tuivai.
Along with the approval, Joshi specifically instructed to complete the road development work within a year.
Apart from these, the Ministry has also sanctioned Rs 3 crores for the construction of a bridge over the Tuivai river on the Manipur-Mizoram border.
Another Rs 6 crores has also been approved during the meeting between Jarnail Singh and LK Joshi for the renovation of Makru and Barak bridges along NH 53, it said.
