Imphal, March 18, 2006: The Okram Ibobi Singh government has instituted two judicial inquiry commissions to probe the allegations of mass rape of Hmar women by militants and the molestation of Maibam Naobi Devi in custody. Justice S.P. Rajkhowa, a retired judge of Calcutta High Court, will head the two probe panels. More »

Imphal, March 10, 2006: As part of the ongoing visits to the hill areas of the State, Governor Dr SS Sidhu today visited Thanlon, Parbung, Jiribam as well as Lungthulien where a raging controversy is on over the alleged rape of Hmar women by cadres of an underground outfit. In a statement, the Governor’s Secretariat said that the Governor met relatives of the victims of land mine at Parbung as well as the alleged atrocities committed at Lungthulien by militants. More »

Churachandpur, March 08, 2006: Over 1000 women from various ethnic minorities marked International Women’s Day here today by staging a massive rally to call attention to the plight of the 21 Hmar tribal girls who were allegedly raped by United National Liberation Front (UNLF) militants in three villages of Manipur’s Churachandpur district, in January.
