Altogether 16 women, including one 24 year old housewife deposed and narrated their nightmarish account before the probe panel set up by the Government to ascertain allegation of mass rape by UNLF and KCP cadres some months back. Imphal, April 17, 2006: The Justice S.P. Rajkhowa Commission inquiring into the alleged rape of tribal women by militants in Churachandpur district will temporarily shift its office at the scene of the alleged crime in the interiors of the district to record the statements of the victims.

Aizawl, April 12, 2006: The Hmar Inpui, the apex body of the Hmar tribe has denied the alleged politicizing of the rape issue by the United National Liberation Front. The Hmar Inpui denial came in the wake of the allegation made by the UNLF that the Hmars were interested in politicizing the issue with the ulterior motive of creating ethnic tension to defeat the UNLF’s national liberation struggles.
