Imphal, April 8, 2006: As demanded by some NGOs the State Government has begun exercises for temporary sitting of the Rajkhowa commission at Parbung to record statements of victims in the alleged mass rape of Hmar women folk in Lungthulien village of the Churachandpur sub-division.
The investigation panel headed by Justice (retired) SP Rajkhowa had on April 6 apprised the State Government to initiate necessary measures for a sitting at Par-bung instead of previously announced probe venue at Imphal.
In compliance to the panel’s formal intimation the Government has made necessary arrangements to conduct the probe at the incident site that would ex- tend to nine days starting from April 18, conveyed informed source.
As part of the arrangement, the Home Department had requisitioned to hire a helicopter for ferrying the Commission officials from the State capital to the probe destination.
To ensure smooth conduct of the investigation, Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur AK Sinha is informed to have attended a high level meeting with officials concerned.
It is pertinent to add that some NGOs had alleged cadres of UNLF and KCP of raping 21 Hmar tribe women on January 16 to which both the UGs had strongly denied. Parbung police sta- tion, under whose jurisdiction Lungthulien village falls, has also registered 10 FIR cases on the matter.
