Imphal, April 8, 2006: Stating that UNLF is constrained to observe that activities of certain outside-based NGOs on the issue of rape and torture allegedly committed by some MPA-KCP cadres in Churachandpur district have crossed the limit of rationale tolerance, the underground organisation reiterated its willingness to cooperate with concerned NGOs in finding out the truth.
Referring to the recent protest rally at New Delhi organised by the outside-based NGOs, the UNLF said in a statement issued by its senior publicity secretary that activities of these bodies have confirmed they (NGOs) are rather more interested in politicizing the issue with the ulterior motive of creating ethnic tensions.
Elucidating UNLF pointed to blocking sincere efforts to bring out the whole truth which has, knowingly or unknowingly, established the fact that they are working for Indian intelligence agencies whose long term interest is to keep Manipur as well as the entire region divided on ethnic lines in an attempt to suppress ‘our national liberation struggles’.
Denouncing such divisive agenda of the NGOs the UNLF called upon the bodies to desist from abetting ethnic tension and to rectify their conduct.
As far as the inconsistent allegations of rape and torture is concerned UNLF reiterate its earlier stand that any of the MPA-KCP cadres who were camping in Parbung area during that time did not commit any such crime, except beating up some collaborators of Indian security forces, said the statement.
Conveying its respect to sentiments of Hmar womenfolk, the secretary also said any MPA-KCP cadre found guilty of committing the crime by fact finding team of civil society organisations will be given capital punishment and pledged to produce those UG cadres before the probe team.
It, however expressed resentment the probe could not materialise due to irrational obstructions, which tantamount to suppression of truth, from some interested NGOs which is evident to all.
Not willing to wilt to the obstructive agenda of some bodies with ulterior motive, UNLF said it is imperative to ensure justice to all for which the outfit announced its preparedness to welcome an independent probe body of international stature like the International Committee on Red Cross (ICRC) to extract the exact truth on the matter.
UNLF would not hesitate in making all out efforts in facilitating the ICRC team record statements of those MPAKCP cadres alleged to be involved in the incident, asserted the statement.
Regarding the stand of some NGOs whose activities is akin to obstructing investigation, the outfit fumed ‘double standard of shouting for justice on one hand and suppressing the truth on the other should stop’. Enough is enough, added the statement.
