Protest rally in NC Hills

Haflong, April 17, 2006: A protest rally was held today in NC Hills district of Assam by the Hmars and other communities condemning the mass rape of more than 21 Hmar women, planting of landmines, displacement of villagers, and torturing of villagers by the UNLF and KCP militants in Churachandpur district of Manipur.

Reports said that the rally was attended by more than 3000 people. A memorandum was also submitted to the Manipur and Mizoram in these regards.

This is the third protest rally against the atrocities of the UNLF and KCP militants in Churachandpur. On April 8, 2006, the Joint Women’s Association of Churachandpur had a protest rally attended by more than 10,000 people.

Joint students’ organisation in Delhi from Manipur and Mizoram also had a protest march on April 4, 2006 in Delhi and more than 1000 people from different communities joined the rally to protest against the serious violations of rights by armed rebels and also for the indifference attitude of the Manipur Government towards the marginalized people of Churachandpur.
