Aizawl, May 18, 2006: Hmar families in Khanpui village under Darlawn police station has been served with an eviction notice by a committee comprising of VC and NGOs of the village. The first notice set a dateline of April 15 which however has been extended till May 21. More »

Ms. Malini put forward a proposal for holding a Free Medical Camp cum Legal Rights of SC/ST Women and Health and Trauma Counseling for the Hmar people in the Tipaimukh sub-division and for the displaced people who are presently taking refuge at the Sakawrdai relief camp, Mizoram. Aizawl, May 15, 2006: Malini Bhattacharya, member of National Commission for Women (NCW) who has recently visited Lungthulien and Parbung in Tipaimukh subdivision, Manipur to conduct ground examination of the alleged mass rape of Hmar women was convinced that the atrocities committed against the Hmar women were a shocking revelation and said she would pursue the matter with her recommendations in New Delhi. Parbung and Lungthulien are two small villages in Tipaimukh sub-division, Churachandpur District of Manipur where people belonging to the Hmar tribe lived. This area, for sometime, has been infested by militants of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), and they had been harassing and torturing the villagers and extorting ransom in cash and kind from them.
