Imphal, July 12, 2006: After the examination of the alleged rape victims at Lungthulien and Parbung, the Rajkhowa Commission of Inquiry has decided to conduct cross-examination of the victims at Parbung.

A reliable source informed The Sangai Express that a seven member team including the Chairperson, his PSO, Commission’s secretary, one interpreter recommended by a panel from DIPR, two lawyers on behalf of Human Rights Alert and Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) and another interpreter have been short-listed to participate in the cross-examination.

The Commission has also urged the State Government to hire two helicopters to take the team to Parbung.

The team would leave for Parbung on August 21.The scheduled cross-examination of the victims is in response to the petitions submitted by HRA and MAFYF to confirm the veracity of the incident which allegedly took place on January 16 this year at Lungthulien.

The examination of Parbung SDO scheduled for today was cancelled as the officer failed to turn up.

He might be examined on a later date or during the panel’s scheduled visit at Parbung.
As part of its enquiry proceedings, Churachandpur DC AK Sinha was examined on July 10 while the SP of the district L Dorjee was examined yesterday.

Out of 100 families who left their villages in the aftermath of the incident, 40 families have returned back from Mizoram, said Dorjee.

Former Manipur Human Rights Commission member Kh Chonjon and Human Rights Law Network, Manipur unit lawyer Meihoubam Rakesh would appear for HRA advocate S Lakhikanta would appear on behalf of MAFYF.
