Imphal, July 18, 2006: One of the contesting parties in the probe into the alleged rape of Hmar women, MAFYF has petitioned the Justice Rajkhowa Panel to allow four of its members to participate in the cross examination of the alleged victims.

The Inquiry Commission, had on July 12 recommended that a seven member team including two lawyers of HRA and MAFYF and an interpreter be short listed to participate in the cross examination.

The Commission had also recommended that the State Government be urged to arrange two helicopters to ferry the team members to Parbung and back.

The team is scheduled to leave on August 21 and return on August 26.The scheduled cross examination of the alleged rape victims and other witnesses comes on heels of two separate petitions filed by HRA and MAFYF to confirm the veracity of the rape that allegedly took place at Lungthulien and Parbung on January 16 this year.

In the petition filed today, MAFYF president S Kangleipal prayed that the Commission gives permission to four of its representatives, including two lawyers, an interpreter and himself to participate in the cross examination.

The petition also prayed to issue a directive to the Churachandpur DC to arrange fooding and lodging for them at Parbung and needed security.
