Imphal, September 18, 2006: Following the threat notice issued by the Hmar National Assembly, HNA, the Meetei Youth Organisation, Churachandpur has imposed public curfew from the night of September 19 in all the villages inhabited by Meetei community in the areas of Churachandpur town. The curfew is to be effective from 7.30pm to 4am.
A circular issued by the Meetei Youth Organisation, Churachandpur said the curfew is being imposed to prevent any untoward incident and any individual found violating the curfew will be held responsible for any untoward incident.
In the meantime, a public meeting was held today at Meitei Leikai Praja Mandop by the Meetei Society, Churachandpur and discussed the HNA staement, which threatened to serve quit notices to the Meiteis inhabiting in Churachandpur district if the state government fails to fullfill their demands within 45 days.
Today’s meeting was participated by leaders of several civil society organisations like Ima Leimarel Apunba Lup, Churachandpur branch of the Apunba Lup, Social Women Reformation and Development Samaj, Churachandpur branch, Meira Paibi Lups, clubs, organisations, association apart from senior citizen and public leaders.
After threadbare discussion, the public meeting decided to condemned strongly the HNA notice.
The meeting also resolved that the HNA should withdraw their notice immediately with a view of maintaining communal harmony.
Calling upon all the organisations based on ethnic lines to understand the hidden agenda of political mongers, the public meet also cautioned that government and the HNA should bear responsibility for any untoward incident which might come out against the threat notice.
While asserting that Meetei community has been extending moral and physical support to causes of the indigenous communities inhabiting in Manipur during the times of adversity, the public meet called for maintaining harmony amongst all the indigenous communities inhabiting in the state.
