Imphal, September 18, 2006: The Meitei Youth Organisation, Churachandpur has imposed public curfew in the Meitei inhabited areas of Churachandpur town with effect from 7.30 pm to 4 am tomorrow to prevent any untoward incident.
Announcing this in a statement, Organisation president H Brojen Meitei categorically stated that any person who violates the public curfew should be held responsible for any eventuality.
To discuss the recent development in the town, Meetei Society, Churachandpur convened a public meeting at the mandop of Mandop Leikai yesterday.
The meeting attended by representatives of Ima Leimarel Apunba Lup, Social Women Reformation and Development Samaj (CCpur Branch), Apunba Lup (CCpur Branch), Meira Paibi Lups, Clubs, Organisations and Associations, public leaders and senior citizens discussed the threat of the Hmar outfit HNA to serve quit notice to the Meiteis living in Churachandpur if the Government do not fulfil its demands within 45 days.
After a serious deliberation on the issue, the meeting decried such quit notice threat as abuse of the freedom of expression and demanded HNA to withdraw its decision immediately in the interest of maintaining communal harmony among the various ethnic groups of people living in the State.
While endorsing that all the communities irrespective of their religious background, caste and creed have been extending their support both morally and physically not just in the issue related to the rape cases at Lungthulien and Parbung, but also in all other issues of public interest, the meeting also categorically resolved that HNA should be held responsible for any untoward incident that might occur if it does not retract its step.
