Lamka, September 25, 2006: More than five months after the civil society fact finding team visited affected villages of Tipaimukh and the refugee camps in Mizoram, Hmar Women Association has request the team and Rajkhowa Commission to made its report public at the earliest.
A statement issued by HWA in this regard said, after a long wait it was compelled to ask the team represented by Human Rights Alert, Rongmei Lu Phuam, Human Rights Law Network and Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights, when it will make its report on the Tipaimukh mass rape public.
‘The dead silence and senseless inactivity still maintained by the team has opened a big space for HRA to manipulate the truth of the miseries and suffering of the Tipaimukh villagers’ said the statement and pose ‘Is the truth that you have witnessed so harsh to believe that you consented to Attempt to ‘cross examine’ the rape victims again?’
Calling upon the various human rights organisations to uphold its credibility and represent the victims of human rights violations than merely playing the game of doubting, questioning and contesting even after it witnessed the truth and victims, HWA appeal the Rajkhowa Commission as well as the civil society fact-finding team to make its report public at the earliest.
