Lamka, January 15, 2007: Adding a rider on the Hmar Women Association, HWA’s declaration of the 16th Jan as a Day of Sorrow the Zomi Human Rights Foundation, ZHRF, further expressed its profound grief and sorrow at the continuing injustices meted out to the poor victims of rape on Jan 16 last year at Lungthulien and Parbung respectively.
In a release the foundation said the rights and dignities of the innocent people has been violated by the criminals masquerading as revolutionaries.
In a statement the foundation questioned the sincerity of the state govt and other authorities to address the situation and redress the grievances as well as book the wrong doers.
It further said the response of the state govt, the so-called NGOs and other concerned organisations showed their true colours over the issue in general and towards the tribals of the state in general.
Urging the govt to ensure publication of the reports of the Rajkhowa commission without any loss of time it urged the govt to make payment of rehabilitation as well as other compensation packages to the rape victims sooner than later.
