Imphal, February 20, 2007: In a significant verdict, the gauhati High Court has directed the director General of Police to depute an officer not below the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) to inquire into allegations that Assam Rifles personnel are using villagers of Tuyang in Chandel district as forced labourers. The Hmar Women Association (HWA) submitted a memorandum to Sonia Gandhi who was recently campaigning in Churachandpur district. In the memorandum, the HWA presented “the plights of Hmar tribal women in Tipaimukh sub-division of Churachandpur, Manipur who were raped and molested by the outlawed cadres of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) during January 2006.” More »

Imphal, February 11, 2007: The isolated and remote hamlet of Tuyang within Dingpi area of Chandel district is enduring the apathy and distrust of Assam Rifles, in oblivion to the outside world.
