Imphal, March 19, 2007: Rifleman Namthuipou Gangmei of 38 Assam Rifles ‘A’ company posted at Kotlien who was arrested by the police on the charge of raping an 18-year old girl at Veitum Khullen under Sapermeina Police Station on March 13 was produced in the Court of CJM Senapati today and later remanded to police custody for 10 days.
Medico-legal investigation of the accused rapist has also been conducted today.
After being arrested by personnel of Sapermeina Police Station at around 10.15 am yesterday, Rifleman (No. 38000968-P) Namthuipou Gangmei was requisitioned at Imphal Police Station.
The accused was produced before the Court of the CJM Senapati and remanded to police custody for 10 days to facilitate further interrogation and investigation of the case.
Later in the afternoon at around 1.30, Namthuipou was brought to the Department of Forensic Medicine Sciences of RIMS Hospital for medico-legal investigation.
Penile swab, Urethra swab and blood samples of the accused have also been collected during the investigation.
Medical examination of the 18 year old girl was conducted at RIMS a few days back, while the IG AR (S) had assured that an inquiry is underway.
