Tuithaphai, February 15, 2008: According to a press release issued by Joint Secretary (Home), Govt. of Manipur, the Manipur government has decided to further extend the submission dateline of the Rajkhowa Commission of Inquiry report for another three (3) months with effect from February 1, 2008.

The Rajkhowa Commission was instituted by the Government of Manipur on March 18, 2006 under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 to investigate the authenticity of the ‘alleged’ molestation and rape of Hmar girls and women in Tipaimukh sub-division of Churachandpur district in Manipur, India by proscribed UNLF and KCP cadres in January 2006.

When the notification of the establishment of the Judicial Enquiry was issued, the Commission was asked to submit the report within 2 months time. The deadline for the submission of the report has already been extended several times.

The Rajkhowa Commission took the testimony of the rape and molested victims in April, 2006. It also cross-examined the victims at Tipaimukh last month in January 2008. Civil society and human right groups in Churachandpur and other parts of Manipur has demanded the commission report to be made public and protest were also demonstrated last year in this regard.
