Bandh total at Kuki areas, partial at Imphal

Imphal, March 23, 2007: Normal life in some parts of the hill districts particularly in Kuki dominated areas was affected due to the 12 hour bandh called by the Kuki Students’ Organisation, Chandel, Kuki Movement for Human Rights and Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Chandel district to protest the alleged abduction of Kuki refugees from Chandel district to neighbouring Myanmar and planting of landmines in Khengjoi areas in the district by an underground organisation. The other side of the story of TS Laijang

Imphal, March 21, 2007:While a number of tribal organisations, particularly the Hill Tribal Council, Moreh and Kuki Students’ Organisation, Chandel have been maintaining that the UNLF along with Myanmar military had abducted a number of villagers taking shelter at the refugee camp at TS Laijang and taken them to Myanmar, another story has emerged which says the villagers left the camp on their own volition and have returned to their respective villages as it is now time to tend to their fields. Police remand for rape accused AR personnel

Imphal, March 19, 2007: Rifleman Namthuipou Gangmei of 38 Assam Rifles ‘A’ company posted at Kotlien who was arrested by the police on the charge of raping an 18-year old girl at Veitum Khullen under Sapermeina Police Station on March 13 was produced in the Court of CJM Senapati today and later remanded to police custody for 10 days.
